Overview
This is a quota-carrying
player-coach role
that will manage a team of Business Development Representatives (BDRs) while also contributing individually to pipeline generation. The Business Development Manager will report to the Vice President of Sales, with primary responsibility to drive new business pipeline through a combination of cold outreach, warm engagement, and effective coaching of the BDR team. Additional responsibilities include performance management, pipeline reviews, territory prioritization, training, and execution of outbound strategies that align with HireRight's growth objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently generate new business pipeline through a mix of cold calling, email outreach, social selling, and leveraging warm lists through marketing driven programs.
  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of BDRs to meet and exceed activity and pipeline targets.
  • Drive daily activity discipline: call blocks, outreach cadences, objection handling, and consistent pipeline reporting.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Operations to ensure messaging, campaigns, and lead follow-up are aligned.
  • Forecast team pipeline performance, track KPIs, and provide regular updates to leadership.
  • Build and refine prospecting strategies, cadences, and playbooks to maximize outbound effectiveness.
  • Lead by example in the "player-coach" model—personally contributing to outreach and qualified meetings while ensuring team adoption of best practices.
  • Use available enablement tools (CRM, sales engagement platforms, lead databases) to optimize efficiency and scale.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and persistence in outbound prospecting.

Qualifications
Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of B2B sales and prospecting experience (SDR, BDR, or inside sales) with a strong track record of pipeline generation and quota achievement.
  • At least 1–2 years of experience leading, coaching, or mentoring BDRs/SDRs in a high-volume outbound environment.
  • Strong hunter mentality—comfortable driving cold outreach while also leveraging warm leads.
  • Familiarity with sales enablement tools such as Salesforce, Zoominfo, Sales Navigator, and other prospecting automation systems.
  • Proven ability to coach teams on prospecting techniques, call structure, and objection handling.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, and Operations.

  • Ability to manage performance metrics, forecast accurately, and hold teams accountable.

  • Resourceful, self-starter, with the ability to balance personal contribution with leadership responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire, and bring out the best in a team.
