The Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) represents more than 1,700 companies in the U.S. and around the globe who play a critical part in providing recycled materials to America's manufacturing industries. The Senior Accountant is a key member of ReMA's Finance team, responsible for core accounting functions, financial reporting, and internal controls across multiple entities and Chapters. This role supports strategic decision-making through accurate analysis and collaboration, ensuring financial integrity and compliance.
The Senior Accountant also manages the cash disbursement process in partnership with a third-party vendor, ensuring accurate and timely recording in the accounting system. With a strong focus on internal controls and compliance, this role collaborates closely with Chapters to uphold financial consistency and transparency. Through precise financial analysis and reporting, the Senior Accountant supports strategic decision-making and contributes to ReMA's mission with clarity, accountability, and excellence.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities- Leads core accounting operations, including monthly and year-end close processes, journal entries, accruals, amortizations, and reconciliations across multiple entities.
- Oversees payroll processing and related journal entries, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal policies and GAAP standards.
- Manages cash disbursements and accounts payable, including vendor coordination, deposits, and select accounts receivable functions.
- Prepares and analyzes financial statements, budgets, and forecasts to support internal decision-making, external reporting, and strategic financial planning.
- Maintains and strengthens internal controls, accounting procedures, and compliance frameworks, including regulatory filings (e.g., 1099s, sales/use tax) and audit support.
- Supports strategic financial planning, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis in collaboration with cross-functional teams and Chapter partners.
- Continuously improves accounting workflows and stays informed on evolving financial regulations and best practices.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with at least 5 years of progressive experience in professional accounting across sectors such as public accounting, nonprofit organizations, or government agencies.
- Proven expertise in financial reporting, account reconciliation, general ledger management, and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar platforms; strong technical accounting and analytical skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct complex financial analysis and forecasting, grounded in a solid understanding of core accounting principles including double-entry bookkeeping, cash management, and GAAP standards.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial insights clearly to diverse audiences.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying current on financial regulations, industry best practices, and emerging trends in nonprofit and corporate accounting.
Working Conditions
- Salary range for this position is between $80,000 - $90,000.
