We are excited to announce an opportunity for an accomplished
Lead Java Backend Developer
to join our team as a contractor in New York. This role is ideal for a senior technologist who has spent over a decade building high-performance backend systems and is ready to take on a leadership-driven, hands-on coding role.

As a Lead Java Developer, you will be working on
mission-critical systems
that process
millions of transactions daily
, requiring deep technical expertise, strong architectural understanding, and the ability to guide teams toward engineering excellence.

This is a role for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, understands the demands of modern enterprise applications, and can consistently deliver scalable, reliable, and secure backend solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Lead backend development efforts across complex, high-volume applications
  • Architect, design, and enhance microservices using
    Java and Spring Boot
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including DevOps, QA, and Product
  • Drive engineering best practices around
    TDD
    , clean code, resiliency, and performance
  • Ensure systems are optimized for
    scalability
    ,
    latency
    ,
    fault-tolerance
    , and
    availability
  • Perform code reviews and mentor junior and mid-level developers
  • Contribute to pipeline automation, deployment strategies, and CI/CD improvements
  • Troubleshoot production issues and deliver timely resolutions for high-impact systems

Required Skills & Experience

  • 12–16 years
    of professional Java backend development experience
  • Deep expertise in:
  • Java

    Spring Boot

    RESTful API design
  • Microservices architecture
    and distributed systems
  • Hands-on experience working with systems processing
    millions of daily transactions
  • Strong command of
    JUnit
    , unit testing, and test-driven development
  • Solid understanding of
    caching frameworks

    messaging/queuing systems
    , and
    database performance tuning
  • Experience with
    CI/CD pipelines
    ,
    Git
    , and containerization technologies like
    Docker

    Kubernetes
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex backend issues in high-volume environments
