Job Summary:
The Director of Endoscopy Services KH functions under the direction of the Vice President of Perioperative Operations, or Designee.
The Director of Endoscopy Services KH oversees the strategic, operational, and quality aspects and has accountability for the direct reports of the GI/Pulmonary Lab operations at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and its affiliates. This includes Windy Hill Hospital, Acworth Health Park, Cherokee Health Park, Kennestone Hospital and East Cobb Health Park. This role facilitates the integration and teamwork of all Kennestone endoscopy departments for optimal care of patients. Works with team members, leaders and physicians to adopt and incorporate quality initiatives and understand economic and strategic considerations. Responsible for development of strategic and tactical plans to maximize the effectiveness of Endoscopy Services at the facility. This includes budget planning and management (capital and operational) strategic planning, compliance, scheduling, appropriate staffing, performance improvement and clinical trials oversight. The Director identifies cost effective systems needed to support the business of the department, considering business trends, resource availability, and changes in customers.
This leader will be a key leader within the Kennestone leadership team and in partnership with nursing to ensure efficient, high quality, and high patient experience across the entire hospital continuum of care. This position establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, team members, volunteers, and vendors. A strong clinical understanding of the gastrointestinal and pulmonary disease processes and all aspects of hospital based procedures and testing is necessary. The ability to design and align resources to support the GI service line initiatives, program development, developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external referral sources are keys to success. The position will also work closely with departments across the system to identify opportunities to improve GI/pulmonary health among inpatient and procedural care, standardize operations, financial and quality value.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
1. Leadership and Strategy
a. Oversees clinical and operational direction for Kennestone Hospital Endoscopy Services.
b. Serves as a professional role model and mentor to motivate, develop, recruit and retain a quality team.
c. Provides leadership in critical thinking, conflict management and problem solving.
d. Meets with team regarding departmental operations, develops plans to ensure goals are successfully met.
e. Serves as a mediator between team, physicians and others as required.
f. Cultivates positive relationships between departments.
g. Establishes positive relationships with medical staff.
h. Leads affiliated committees, task force and other groups to support organizational mission.
i. Ensures organized patient, employee and physician satisfaction activities to increase metrics.
j. Oversees staffing plans and scheduling practices required to meet volume demands and fluctuations.
k. Identifies problems and addresses them promptly, alerting appropriate people, and/or analyzing
alternative measures and making reasonable decisions.
l. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of new trends, technology, and methods to ensure effective and competitive services.
m. Ensures smooth workflow, timely completion of all services, prioritization of the work and effective interaction with other departments.
n. Monitors room utilization and capacity on an ongoing basis to ensure efficiencies of daily operations.
o. Coordinates any new services and construction / renovation projects.
p. Leads marketing activities for new services and technology.
q. Oversees and coordinates new equipment purchases and installations.
r. Collaborates with Gastroenterology and Pulmonary Physicians regarding new services and/or projects.
s. Determines clinical and administrative direction and processes to achieve goals.
2. Financial Accountability
a. Responsible for operating and capital budgets, monitoring budget reports and managing variance discrepancies to ensure cost effective unit operations.
b. Plans for future needs of the service and collaborative areas, including personnel, equipment, supplies, program development, inter-department relationships in order to maintain market competitiveness in the community.
c. Manages budget variances and monthly cost center responsibility report responses provided by business manager.
d. Reviews productivity reports with departmental leaders to review benchmarks relative to staffing/labor and expenses.
e. Collaborates with business manager and departmental coder to ensure appropriate CPT and reimbursement practices in concert with Revenue
Management Department.
f. Leads the Endoscopy Value Analysis Committee.
g. Oversees inventory control of reporting cost centers through standardization and consignments of higher cost supply items.
h. Collaborates with Revenue Management and Compliance regarding charge master maintenance, coding and reimbursement activities.
i. Collaborates with department business manager as needed to ensure reports are completed and submitted on time.
j. Ensures vendors adhere to vendor guidelines as outlined by Vice-President of Supply Chain Management.
k. Monitors inventory plan to maximize quality choices while minimizing cost with minimal expiration of product.
3. Quality / Safety
a. Utilizes outcome data to improve practice, process flow and evidenced practices.
b. Implements and continuously aligns processes to maintain and improve quality outcomes.
c. Promotes evidence-based practice and ethical accountability.
d. Promotes professional nursing practice through shared governance and departmental council.
e. Promotes performance improvement initiatives designed to enhance quality patient care and improve work processes, especially focusing on clinical and operational outcomes.
f. Assures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
g. Meets or exceeds performance and quality improvement standards, i.e., Get With The Guidelines, SCIP, Core Measures, Chest Pain Center Accreditation.
h. Ensures compliance of State, Federal and Joint Commission standards and regulations all departments.
i. Implements and maintains Scope of Service for all departments.
j. Responsible for overall patient care needs an acuity, as relates to staff competence and physician credentials.
k. Ensures appropriate credentialing policies are followed in the course of procedure criteria guidelines.
l. Ensures high quality, cost effective, patient-centered care is delivered in all areas or responsibility.
m. Monitors patient satisfaction surveys on an on-going basis through patient satisfaction survey reports and makes appropriate recommendations, changes based on trending and survey results.
n. Ensures timely service recovery performed as needed by all departments.
o. Develops, implements and evaluates selected hospital and nursing policies and procedures to main- standards of nursing practice.
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
- Bachelors in Nursing is required.
- Masters degree is preferred.
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- RN-COMPACT - RN - Multi-state Compact or RN - Reg Nurse (Single State)
- Minimum 7 years Healthcare experience as an RN (preferrably in acute care care, GI or other procedural operations) is required.
- Minimum 3 years Healthcare Operational Leadership (preferrable in acute care, GI or other procedural operations) is required.
