Coinbase is seeking skilled backend engineers to join our team in developing the next generation of crypto-centric products and features. You will tackle unique and complex technical challenges, bridging the gap between web-scale applications and blockchain technology. Your role will help make cryptocurrency accessible globally, focusing on real-time applications with high-frequency, low-latency updates, while managing a secure dockerized infrastructure in the cloud.

The Institutional Product Group supports Coinbase's institutional clients, allowing large financial institutions to securely manage their digital assets and engage in the crypto economy. We are dedicated to building a robust and secure crypto platform that supports numerous assets and facilitates crypto participation through staking, governance, and web3 gateways. Our team is engaged in exciting work, crafting cutting-edge crypto technologies, scalable infrastructure, and user interfaces across web, mobile, and browser extensions in a fast-paced industry full of opportunities to launch new initiatives.

The Markets Derivatives team is crucial in developing and managing the core systems that support both Coinbase's US Derivatives and International Exchanges. This includes Matching Engines, Order Management Systems, FIX, REST, and Market Data gateways, catering to diverse customer segments. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll join a growing engineering team that confronts some of the toughest scale and performance challenges as we execute an ambitious product roadmap to establish Coinbase as the leading and most trusted crypto platform worldwide.

What you'll be doing:

• Enhancing services to meet critical product and business needs using Java, Golang, and RDS Postgres.
• Designing scalable, high-volume, low-latency systems to address new challenges with modern cloud technology and industry best practices.
• Collaborating with other engineers, designers, and product managers to transform our product and technical vision into actionable roadmaps every quarter.
• Writing high-quality, well-tested code to fulfill customer needs.
• Maintaining production services and database infrastructure.

What we seek in you:

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining critical low-latency production services, with knowledge of service-oriented architecture.
• Familiarity with at least one major SQL or No-SQL database (Postgres, SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB) and an interest in optimizing and maintaining them.
• A strong passion for building an open financial system that connects the world.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Domain experience with crypto, derivatives, or other financial products.
• Understanding of high-quality code principles and fostering a high standard environment.
• Focused on execution with the ability to handle ambiguity.
• Experience architecting complex distributed systems at scale.
• Background in building trading systems or matching engines characterized by high volume and low latency.
• Experience in a rapidly growing company from startup to mid-size.
• Familiarity with Java, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, and Postgres.
• Experience in building Ad-Tech, financial, or SaaS systems.
