Reports to: Director, Events & Production

Compensation: $79,907-$84,346 Annually

Status: 100%, Full-Time, Regular, Exempt

Probation: 180 days

JOB SUMMARY: The Technical Event Manager shall, under the general supervision of the Director of Events and Production, oversee all production elements of events including staffing, equipment, and production design.

% of Role ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

% Event Production Management

• Start-to-finish event production design, management, and execution.

• Communication with Center staff members to establish production needs for events, followed by the planning and implementation of those production plans and equipment usage.

• Provide technical support and expertise to Events Department staff for events, including operating computers and equipment as needed while following event timelines to ensure all event tasks are completed on time.

• Lighting and sound design and implementation of all A/V aspects of internal and external events, both on and off-Center property.

• Provide leadership, communication, and directives for technicians and auxiliary event staff, including Security, Maintenance, Front of House, artists, renters, Center staff, and volunteers.

• Manage all A/V Technicians, including hiring, interviews, training, communications, and supervision.

• Request, train, and supervise volunteers on an as-needed basis.

% Audio-Visual Management

• Manage the setup and strike of audio-visual equipment and supplies for all Center events, including but not limited to film shoots, live performances, concerts, receptions, conferences, and festivals.

• Oversee inventory, maintenance, and storage of all Center A/V equipment.

• Prepare proposals and conduct research to support the Events Department with the purchase of A/V equipment as needed.

• Monitor and maintain event spaces and event equipment storage areas, including overseeing upgrades and maintenance as needed.

% Administrative and Logistical Support

• Provide post-event evaluations regarding event, equipment, facility, clients, staff, etc., and complete follow-up as needed.

• Follow security procedures, particularly with respect to safety, equipment, and access.

• Deliver offsite rentals and technical equipment as needed.

• Participate in staff meetings, Center-sponsored offsite events, planning and training meetings, and events as required.

• Evening and weekend hours required.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

% Management Responsibilities (Budgetary & Direct Supervisory) (If none, indicate 0%.)

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or minimum eight years’ experience in special events, theatre and/or event production.

• Experience supervising multiple people with varying degrees of training, knowledge, and experience.

• Solid background in back and front of house for live special and theatrical events in small (50 seats) and medium (200 seats) houses, including indoor, outdoor, and unconventional spaces.

• Complete working knowledge of light and sound boards and equipment for theatre and ability to professionally operate this equipment.

• Complete knowledge of power tools and safety protocols.

• Ability to read and implement light and sound plots, set designs, and floor plans, build from elevation drawings, construct set pieces and basic rigging skills.

• Ability to build, instruct, and support a tech crew successfully during rehearsals and performances with or without a stage manager.

• Proficiency with word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems.

• Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to interact appropriately with visiting as well as onsite technicians, theatrical producers, film operators, artists, and clients.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with celebrities and people of diverse races, ethnicities, gender identities, ages, and sexual orientations in a multicultural environment.

• Valid CA driver license, clean DMV printout, and vehicle w/ proof of insurance.
