What will an E-Commerce Shipper/Material Handler do?

Position Purpose

E-Commerce Shipper/Material Handler is responsible for order fulfillment which includes packaging and shipping orders, pulling, and shelving merchandise, organizing, and arranging materials. This position requires high standards of organizing, quality presentation of product and customer service.

Job Functions

  • Through words and actions support Chattanooga Goodwill's Mission, Vision, and Values; actions and decisions will align with organizational guiding principles.
  • Maintain agency, employee, and participants confidentiality. Violation of confidentiality may be cause for termination.
  • Consistently demonstrate and incorporate principles of safety, loss prevention, and risk management for self and others into daily activities and ensure participation in safety programs. Attend required safety training; participate in safety drills and exercises. Ensure tools and equipment are always in good working order and use equipment safely.
  • Consistently maintain acceptable level of productivity.
  • Requires punctual and regular attendance. Time away from work is approved and taken in accordance with established policies.
  • Perform job duties in a prompt, thorough, and acceptable manner. Perform duties in a manner that promotes team concept and reflects Goodwill's ethics, in accordance with Goodwill policies, procedures, CARF standards, and generally accepted business practices.
  • Work cooperatively with all organization employees, participants, customers, and other persons contacted during performing duties. Show respect and sensitivity for those with barriers to employment.
  • Consistently provide excellent customer service to internal business partners and external customers.
  • Safeguard company property, including donated goods. Report any incident of theft, fraud, waste, or unauthorized possession of company property.
  • Retrieve a variety of items.
  • Answer customers' inquiries in a timely manner if applicable.
  • Effectively manage inventory if requested, order supplies as needed.
  • Ensure most efficient and cost-effective shipping options are utilized.
  • Prepare daily/weekly reports.
  • Prepare shipping labels using shipping software, package and ship sold items.
  • Clean, straighten and organize listed-merchandise shelves.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly processing area.
  • Use material handling equipment such as pallet jack and hand truck to move heavily weighted containers. Throughout the course of the workday, handle and move a large amount of materials around the worksite. Push heavy wheeled carts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other material handling equipment.
  • May perform necessary janitorial work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Key Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience in shipping/receiving, inventory control highly desirable.
  • Computer literate and basic principles of postal shipping methods.
  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; basic math.
  • Principles and procedures of filing and record keeping.
  • Ability to: Speak and understand the English language sufficient to read and understand materials, communicate with customers and coworkers.
  • Able to work at usually hectic pace with irregular short deadlines and limited number of critical or unusual situations.
  • Work without direct supervision.
  • Organize workflow for optimal output.
  • Operate standard office equipment and material handling equipment such as hand truck and pallet jack. (training provided)
