Assistant Director for Events and Communications

Entering its 25th Anniversary year, The Center on Philanthropy and Public Policy (The Center) is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Assistant Director for Events and Communications to join its team. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for the conceptualization, planning, and execution of major events including speaker series, conferences, receptions, board meetings, and social engagements. These events are highly curated with guest lists thoughtfully compiled. All The Center’s events and meetings feature high-profile leaders in the philanthropic community, requiring a high level of confidentiality and management of press, public relations, and occasionally security teams for strategic event planning and execution.
With the Director and Senior Associate Director, the Assistant Director will design and produce media elements to enhance national awareness of The Center’s goals, messages, and impact. This includes drafting marketing materials and managing content channels to ensure all media is fresh, up-to-date, and accurately reflects The Center’s priorities.
This position manages student workers and volunteers involved with event production and communication efforts. It is a full-time, one-year fixed term, grant-funded position, located on the USC Los Angeles University Park Campus.
Job Accountabilities:- Plans, implements, and manages The Center on Philanthropy and Public Policy events, including contract and vendor negotiations, program development, and day-of production.
- Acts as the department liaison with stakeholders, participating in program development meetings and providing event consultations.
- Develops and manages event budgets, providing projections and reports for budget administration.
- Oversees work of outside vendors to effectively complete assignments.
- Collaborates on event marketing across social media channels, events calendars, and internal reservation systems.
- Ensures events meet safety protocols and ADA requirements.
- Supports internal staff and faculty gatherings for community building and engagement.
- Recruits, screens, hires, and trains student staff, delegating tasks to meet event deadlines.
- 5 years of event planning experience preferred, with a proven success overseeing large-scale events.
- Experience coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, including high-profile individuals.
- Knowledge of marketing, communications, and social media.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with budget development and implementation.
The annual base salary range for this position is $87,797 - $105,617. Factors considered for employment offers include the scope of the position, the candidate’s experience, education, and market considerations.
