Apparel Technical Product Developer

 

Location: Las Vegas, Onsite

 

All candidates must submit a portfolio in order to be considered for the position.

 

Summary:

Manage the development of products from concept to finished goods. As a Apparel Product Developer, you'll use your knowledge of garments and treatment processes to develop innovative designs. You'll need to possess the ability to work on projects with minimal supervision, within calendar timelines and to the technical standards required.

 

Responsibilities:

· Create and maintain comprehensive technical packages that meet the product's goals for performance, innovation, image, function, and commercial viability. Concentration in knit tops.

· Adhere to the calendar & timelines for garment production for client deliveries.

· Apparel sourcing experience and factory knowledge. Continually seek out new and innovative suppliers to better meet the organization’s needs, reduce costs, achieve our sustainable development objectives, and establish long-term partnerships; ability to communicate with factories outside of the USA.

· Ensure tech packs are complete and free from errors. Deliver tech packs to vendors within development calendar time frame. Receive in product samples within the development calendar time frame and review garment sizing and grading during the development process. Attend fittings and make adjustments to graded spec sheets.

· Independently translate design concepts through the development process, into complete sellable product, within calendar timelines and to the technical standards set.

· Research and evaluate new methods of assembling a garment and combining materials and manufacturing technology to reach the highest levels of performance and style. Review and prioritize performance, safety, and style to properly incorporate them into products. Visualize performance and styling goals and create design solutions to achieve them.

· Work as part of the Creative sales team to manage and meet sample deadlines, from proto sample to production sample. Work with the vendor to ensure that the styles are evolving as originally intended. This includes approving color and fabric, commenting on trim and embellishment strike-offs, and also includes reviewing sample fit and construction through all sample stages.

· Execute the development of complete projects, resolve development and construction issues, and make recommendations to the Creative sales team.

· Create spreadsheets and PO worksheets to be reviewed for unit production for imports and domestic cut & sew. Maintain documentation of your portion of the product process and make sure this documentation is readily available to others.

· When appropriate, you may attend events appropriate for market research. May attend trade shows and meet with vendors to research trends in materials, color, trims, and manufacturing. Stay aware of apparel trends and colors in fashion industry, as well as our competition.

 

Required Skills and Education:

· College degree with concentrations in Fashion, Business or related

· 3 - 5 years of experience as an Apparel Product Developer

· Must have garment pattern and measurement knowledge. Must be able to spec a garment

· Working knowledge of construction, costing and negotiations, and production

· Knowledge of trims and technical aspects of a garment. Must understand textiles including, knits and woven

· Strong written and verbal communication skills; positive attitude & team player

· Must be able to multi-task and meet deadlines

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

· Ability to use discretion and independent judgment to be creative within set timelines

· Must have a strong attention to detail, ability to think on a conceptual level and confident decision-making skills

· Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint

· Skilled in Adobe applications. Illustrator is a must.

· Must be able to work as part of a team and with a diverse group of people and projects

· Willingness to travel overseas to factories in China, India and Central America, as needed

· Must be computer literate and capable of performing tasks

· Must be able to communicate and interact well with peers at all levels

· Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively

· Must be able to solve problems and work independently

· Must work well under pressure to meet deadlines & expectations

· Excellent written, oral, verbal communication and presentation skills, including professional etiquette
