The Position
Wilson Elser is seeking a highly skilled Payroll Accountant to join our Firm. The Payroll Account will help optimize our payroll processes using UKG and ensure they are efficient and fully compliant with government regulations. In addition to payroll processing, the Payroll Accountant will be responsible for payroll reconciliations, system maintenance and handling various ad hoc analytical requests. The ideal candidate will be a methodical, self-motivated, coachable team player with a strong attention to and deep commitment to delivering quality work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in payroll processing to ensure timely compliant and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
- Prepare and maintain detailed, accurate records and reports of payroll transactions
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws as well as adherence to industry best practices
- Assist with the facilitation of audits by fulfilling audit requests with substantiated records and documentation
- Identify opportunities for enhancing payroll systems and procedures, recommending and implementing updates as needed
- Perform additional tasks as required to support the payroll operation
- Prepare payroll and compensation-related journal entries and accruals
- Assist in the preparation of year-end tax forms ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Collaborate with leadership and other stakeholders to effectively address and fulfill all payroll related needs
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field
- 3+ years' related experience required, including payroll processing
- Extensive knowledge of payroll functions, including: Payroll tax return and general ledger reconciliations, Payroll internal controls, Benefit taxation implications and reporting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel (Pivot tables and V-lookups)
- Strong proficiency in Ultipro/UKG/Kronos payroll software
A variety of factors are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, education, licensure and/or certifications, geographic location, market demands, other business and organizational needs, and other factors permitted by law. Final salary wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. This position is considered full-time and therefore qualifies for benefits including 401(k) retirement savings plan, medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
