Responsibilities

This is a night shift position. The general hours are Monday night through Thursday night 10pm-8am.

Resolve, repair and install fiber optics systems and ensure that they work properly

Examine and replace faulty and old fiber optic cables and also organize scheduled maintenance routines

Take care of fiber splicing and rectify fiber optic problem areas

Develop sensor indicators and conduct timely inspections to make sure that faulty fiber optic system does not destabilize its performance

Execute premises cabling and take care of the underground and underwater cabling requirements

Keep track of the signal strength of different devices such as television, telephone to provide adequate performance

Formulate and maintain system records and system designs

MUST be part of a 24/7 on-call rotation (ask for details if necessary)

MUST be available for occasional travel nationwide and globally

• Analyze and record test results

• Assist in erecting/removing telecommunication support structures

• Climb and work aloft on poles and other support structures

• Communicate and coordinate with other workers

• Inspect and test telecommunication transmission lines and cables

• Install cable television lines and cables

• Install/remove/maintain/repair distribution lines and cables

• Install/remove/maintain/repair transmission lines and cables

• Splice and repair telecommunication cables

• Work in confined spaces such as trenches

Skills

  • Accurately diagnose problems
  • MUST have experience prepping and splicing all types of FOCs, specifically ribbonized fiber/large count fiber (skill will be tested)
  • MUST be proficient with an OTDR, Light Source and Power Meter, Fiber Identifier and related test and measuring equipment as well as the accompanying software
  • MUST have active SONET splicing experience (minimum 2 years)
  • MUST have experience driving and operating bucket trucks and trailers (skill will be tested)
  • Crisis management skills
