Overview of the Controller role:

This role emphasizes strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to fostering a positive and productive team environment.

Journal Entries (JEs) Review:

  • Oversee the review and approval of daily journal entries to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Provide guidance to the team on complex entries and ensure they align with accounting standards.

Balance Sheet Oversight:

  • Review and analyze balance sheets, focusing on complex accounts and ensuring proper reconciliation.
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial statements by identifying and addressing discrepancies.

Audit Preparation:

  • Lead efforts to ensure the organization is audit-ready, coordinating with internal teams and external auditors as needed.
  • Leverage prior audit experience to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Team Leadership and Support:

  • Manage and mentor three Assistant Controllers, each overseeing their own team of staff accountants.
  • Foster a collaborative and trusting environment by actively listening to team members and appreciating their input.
  • Promote open communication, provide constructive feedback, and support the professional development of the team.

Cross-Team Collaboration:

  • Act as a key communicator across departments to ensure alignment and clarity on financial processes.
  • Build strong working relationships by demonstrating excellent soft skills, empathy, and a solutions-oriented mindset.

Preferred Qualifications for the Controller role:

  • 5 years of experience in a Controller or closely related role.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing audits from start to finish.
  • Proficiency in Intacct ERP software is a plus; experience with other ERP systems is highly valued.
  • Strong accounting knowledge with the ability to quickly adapt to existing systems and processes.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams of 3-6 individuals.
  • Ability to provide direction, mentorship, and support in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to handle complex tasks with limited runway.
