Job Title: Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing
Location: Arlington, VA
Job Description:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing to join our dynamic educational team in Arlington, VA. As a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, you will provide specialized instruction and support to students with hearing impairments, ensuring they receive a high-quality education tailored to their unique needs.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments, focusing on academic, communication, and social-emotional goals.
- Adapt and modify instructional materials and strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Provide direct instruction in areas such as language development, speech reading, auditory training, and sign language.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and educational staff to support the inclusion and integration of students with hearing impairments into general education settings.
- Conduct assessments and use data to monitor student progress, adjust instructional strategies, and report outcomes to stakeholders.
- Work closely with families to provide guidance, support, and resources to enhance the educational experience and promote family involvement in the learning process.
- Utilize assistive technology and hearing amplification devices effectively to facilitate communication and learning for students with hearing impairments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education with a focus on Deaf Education, or related field.
- Valid teaching license/certification in Deaf Education or ability to obtain Virginia state certification.
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing preferred.
- Knowledge of various communication modes and strategies for students with hearing impairments (e.g., American Sign Language, auditory-verbal approach, cued speech).
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and community partners.
