Job Description

Operations: Supports daily operations of the lab to ensure timely service, productivity, and efficiency. Evaluates new instrumentation and products, providing proper instruction and training in laboratory procedures within their section or units of operation.

Administrative: Adheres to staffing and human resources policies and manages personnel performance. Fosters teamwork, evaluates, counsels and mentors staff, and provides constructive feedback. Manages area-specific financials and ensures appropriate utilization of assets and resources. Assists in scheduling personnel and provides input into hiring and performance evaluations/competency checks of technologists, technicians, and other personnel (students, residents, etc.). May perform the role of technical supervisor.

Technical: Performs the duties of a Medical Technologist.

Process Improvement and Quality: Develops and implements process improvements, encourages LEAN practice, and timely solutions. When appropriate, oversees the final review of laboratory reports prior to release to the physician or for inclusion in permanent medical records. Maintains regulatory compliance in line with NYSDOH and CAP standards.

Education and Training: Assists in the training and instruction of laboratory policies and procedures. Participates in continuing education and keeps abreast of new developments in Clinical Laboratory Science.
