Job DescriptionJob Description

  • Collaborate: Build and maintain relationships with internal merchant traders and cross-functional teams, including operations, quality control teams to ensure smooth and efficient sourcing operations.

  • Trading Strategies: Develop and execute effective trading strategies to maximize profitability while managing risks associated with global purchasing.

  • Risk Management: Assess and mitigate risks related to suppliers, geographical regions, market volatility, regulatory constraints, and trade disputes.

  • Supply Chain: Plan logistical routes and alternate routes for timely arrival of products.

  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on active purchases, positions, risks, market analyses to merchant traders and management.

  • Negotiation: Negotiate contracts, terms, and agreements with suppliers to secure favorable terms and pricing.

  • Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving Skills: Must demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills on a daily basis and in a variety of ways.

Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree with Agriculture, Business, Economics or Accounting.

  • Knowledge of agriculture & food practices, direct experience preferred.

  • Global exposure with agriculture &/or food markets.

Conceptual Understanding:

Business Strategies, Agriculture food manufacturing, Operations, Marketing, Finance, Management, Business Law

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, detailed correspondence, and reports. Ability to write detailed correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Multilingual would be a positive.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as cost analysis, fundamental & technical market analysis, return on investment, budgets & financial reporting. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Computer Skills

Job requires specialized computer skills. Must be adept at using various applications including database, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, graphics, word processing, presentation creation/editing, communicate by e-mail and use scheduling software.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
