Job DescriptionJob DescriptionWe are offering an exciting opportunity for a Controller in the transportation industry, located in Portland, Maine. As a Controller, you will be integral in managing our accounting team, ensuring efficient processing of financial tasks and maintaining our business's financial health. This role is based on-site and offers a comprehensive range of benefits.

Responsibilities:
• Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including month and end-year process, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and budget review
• Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements
• Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles
• Coordinate and complete annual audits
• Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions
• Assign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy
• Meet financial accounting objectives
• Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions
• Utilize advanced Excel and software skills for financial tasks and reporting
• Provide leadership and direction to the accounting team of 3.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role as a Controller, or 10 years' progressive accounting management experience.

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or similar

• Proficiency in General Ledger management and operations.

• Demonstrated skills in Accounting management, including the ability to oversee all accounting operations.

• Experience in conducting Month End Close tasks efficiently and accurately.

• Proven ability to prepare and manage an Annual Budget.

• Experience in conducting Financial Audits and implementing audit recommendations.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of advanced functions and formulas.

• Strong Leadership Skills, with the ability to manage a team, delegate tasks, and make strategic decisions.
