Job Summary

The Office Surveyor/Survey Cad Specialist will be responsible for providing survey computations and drafting support to the construction survey team on the Port Arthur Liquefaction Project site. The successful candidate will work a 48-hour extended work week and be willing to work overtime and night shifts as needed to support safe project execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Project Lead Surveyor with oversight of all survey operations and provide technical direction to the direct-hire survey team.
  • Implement the project safety, quality, and environmental programs.
  • Execute the responsibilities of the Deputy Lead Surveyor in their absence.
  • Ensure the survey office calculations activity execution supports the construction schedule.
  • Provide office technical support to the survey team, including processing of survey data and preparation of deliverables.
  • Support the other Office Surveyors on the project.
  • Implement and administer the Survey Work Request program.
  • Develop and maintain survey data.
  • Review and approve survey data from field crews and ensure survey documentation is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Support with the verification of the Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary control points.
  • Review Survey Control field work and perform accurate network least squares adjustments.
  • Identify the location of underground services and maintain a drawing with as-built underground installations to support excavation permitting process.
  • Prepare survey CAD drawings as required, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations.
  • Provide Civil project completion data and documentation, including As-Built records.
  • Perform Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments.
  • Support the implementation of projects Machine Control operations.
  • Support the implementation of the UAV (Drones) program.
  • Support the implementation of Dimensional Control survey operations.
  • Support the implementation of the 3D Laser Scanning operations.
  • Support the implementation of the Metrology Surveys operations.
  • Assist the Project Lead Surveyor with providing direction and training to less experienced survey team members.
  • Contribute to mentoring junior survey team members and support the Corporate Survey Manager with their Bechtel career paths and growth.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's Zero Incidents safety program.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel quality standards.
  • Must have a solid record of successful project completion with little to zero rework.
  • Knowledge of heavy industrial construction survey principles.
  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to heavy industrial construction surveying field & office activities.
  • Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Survey CAD software, including proficiency with construction layout computations and generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with transferring data to and from field data controllers.
  • Must have experience managing teams working on multiple work fronts.
  • Must be physically capable to participate in project walkdowns, which may require extensive walking, climbing, and lifting.
