About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Relations Manager to join our Communications team at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective public relations strategies to promote the work of the SEI and its researchers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute public relations plans to promote the SEI's research and innovations
  • Manage media relations, including crafting and disseminating press releases, and responding to media inquiries
  • Collaborate with subject-matter experts to develop written technical materials, including articles, blog posts, and website content
  • Oversee the development and implementation of internal and external communications strategies
  • Manage a team of public relations professionals, including performance management and employment decisions
  • Develop and manage the budget for the Public Relations team
  • Represent the interests and work of Public Relations and its staff members in group settings and with senior management
Requirements
  • At least five to eight years of experience in a public relations management role in a technical organization
  • Excellent campaign management, people management, document planning, writing, substantive editing, and copyediting skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities
  • Significant experience with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work with minimal or no supervision
  • Willingness to travel within the SEI and CMU community, and occasionally to sponsor sites, conferences, and offsite meetings
  • Ability to pass a background check, and possibly obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
