About the Role

Carter Machinery Company, a leading provider of marine equipment and services, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Marine Shop and Field Technician to join our team. As an Apprentice Marine Shop and Field Technician, you will be part of our comprehensive training program, designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills required to troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform standard mechanical repairs and complete overhauls on marine engines and propulsion systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in a 15-month training program, covering electrical, marine engines, and propulsion systems fundamentals.
  • Develop strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Work with limited supervision, meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality results.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve team goals and provide excellent customer satisfaction.
  • Utilize computer software, Microsoft Office products, and service software to complete service reports and work orders.
  • Prepare accurate documentation, including work orders, parts lists, and time cards.
  • Read and understand operating manuals, and maintain a high level of technical knowledge.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing workload and providing exceptional customer service.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and Core Values.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary diesel engine or related program completion, or two years of mechanical job experience.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Excellent driving record and ability to work all shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to write service reports and prepare documentation.
  • Ability to read and understand operating manuals, and maintain a high level of technical knowledge.
