Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Operations Supervisor to join our team at W. R. Grace's Curtis Bay, MD plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising employees in the chemical manufacturing setting and reporting to the Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, including environmental and process safety, and a safe workplace for all employees.
  • Analyze production to estimate worker hours and create production schedules that meet both internal and external needs.
  • Responsible for start-up, shutdown, and normal process operation, including manual operation of the process using field controls.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety standards, identifying and reporting or resolving hazards.
  • Direct response to emergency situations, including emergency shutdown procedures.
  • Coach and counsel operations personnel in the assignment of duties.
  • Interface with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met.
  • Inspect and measure product to verify conformance to specifications, utilizing quality control systems and response charts to implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Direct workers in adjusting equipment and processes to correct products that fail to meet quality standards.
  • Complete all regulatory testing and conduct safety meetings for operations personnel as required.
  • Enter SAP notifications as required for maintenance.
  • Inform operations personnel of planned maintenance through effective communication.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
Physical Requirements and Environment
  • Must be willing to wear PPE, including hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, and full face respirator.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Ability to work in a high-hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 3+ years' supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shift work, including days, nights, and weekends.
  • Demonstrated experience with interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Previous experience with appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and conflict resolution.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability to direct and motivate employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to act in a safe manner and teach employees on safety standards.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
