Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to lead a team of histology professionals at Yale School of Medicine. As a Histology Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the histology laboratory, ensuring that all procedures are performed with the highest level of quality and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of histology technicians and supervisors to ensure efficient and effective operation of the laboratory.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and laboratory safety standards.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of histology services with other laboratory functions.
  • Develop and maintain a continuing education program for technical personnel to ensure they are up-to-date with the latest techniques and technologies.
  • Supervise and conduct training programs for new employees and ensure that all staff members are competent in their roles.
  • Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Develop and implement quality control and quality assurance programs to ensure that all laboratory procedures meet the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the Anatomic Pathology Manager to ensure that all laboratory procedures are aligned with departmental goals and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Anatomic Pathology Manager.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of experience in a histology laboratory.
  • Three to five years of progressively more responsible experience in a histology laboratory.
  • A broad knowledge of the histology laboratory with special emphasis on immunohistochemistry and special stain procedures.
  • Some general knowledge of electron microscopy, immunoperoxidase, and immunofluorescent techniques.
  • Preferred: Histotechnologist (HT/HTL) Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that requires working in a fast-paced laboratory environment. You will be required to lift light to moderate weights and work in a environment with general laboratory hazards.
