Job Summary:
The Aquaculture Technician is responsible for managing the operations of the fish production laboratory at Sound School High School. The successful candidate will have a strong background in marine biology and experience working with aquatic livestock.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and maintain the supply of treated fresh and saltwater aquariums and other aquatic holding habitats.
- Perform routine maintenance on all equipment in the fish production laboratory, including water pumps and filtration systems.
- Conduct water quality testing and maintain optimal conditions across various aquatic environments.
- Assist teachers in setting up lab and class projects, and train students on safety and other issues within the fish production laboratory.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal or administrator designee.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in marine biology or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of related laboratory skills and experience with both fresh and saltwater aquariums.
- Previous experience with aquaculture technology and the aquaculture industry required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of current equipment used in the field of aquaculture.
- Experience with water pump operations and piping water to aquatic holding tanks.
- Knowledge of filtration systems and basic protocols for filter cleaning, rotation, and replacement.
- Knowledge of optimal water quality parameters required for aquatic life in a fish production laboratory.
