Role Summary:
Under the guidance of the Director of Special Education and the District Nurses, the Licensed Vocational Nurse will deliver direct healthcare services to students, maintain accurate health records, and provide essential care for students with medical needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver nursing care in alignment with LVN licensing standards.
- Administer medications and injections in compliance with state regulations.
- Collaborate with school staff to address the health requirements of individual students.
- Provide medical treatment for students experiencing health issues during school hours.
- Execute specialized health care tasks, including medication administration and monitoring of health conditions.
- Assist the school nurse with documentation and health screenings.
- Respond effectively to health emergencies involving students.
- Maintain cleanliness in health service areas to ensure a hygienic environment.
- Support students with personal care needs in the health office.
- Perform clerical duties related to student health records.
- Prepare necessary health documentation under the supervision of the school nurse.
- Participate in IEP meetings as needed.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Familiarity with nursing standards, procedures for caring for medically fragile students, and relevant laws governing nursing practice is essential. The candidate should also possess strong observational skills to interpret non-verbal cues from students and maintain confidentiality in student health records.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year of experience working with medically fragile children preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing program.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Current California Vocational Nurse License in good standing.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- California driver's license.
