Job Overview:

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday: 7 AM - 4 PM



Position Summary:

The incumbent will operate under the guidance of the Electric Department Director. This role is pivotal in overseeing all functions related to the Geographical Information System (GIS) within the department, which includes maintaining and updating the GIS database and ensuring accessibility through network or web platforms.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the department's GIS system hardware and software.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve GIS system issues.
  • Provide technical support related to GIS to departmental staff.
  • Update the GIS database, including correcting errors and entering new data, restructuring tables, and performing routine maintenance.
  • Collect GPS data in the field and integrate it into the GIS database.
  • Establish and maintain web maps and network access for GIS mapping.
  • Maintain plotter equipment.
  • Create maps as requested by various stakeholders.
  • Research potential GIS software solutions applicable to departmental needs.

May supervise GIS interns and perform additional duties as assigned.



Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of computer hardware and software, particularly ArcGIS and Arc SDE.
  • Familiarity with SQL and ArcGIS server.
  • Ability to interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Proficiency in operating handheld GPS devices.
  • Knowledge of Windows, MS Office, and other commonly utilized software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to foster effective relationships with the public and colleagues.

Qualifications:

The knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for this position are typically acquired through the completion of a one-year certificate from a college or technical school, coupled with two to three years of experience in AutoCAD, GIS, and drafting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Tennessee driver's license is required.



Physical Requirements:

This role may require the incumbent to occasionally stand or walk, frequently sit, and use hands for various tasks. The individual must be able to reach with arms and hands, communicate effectively, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. The work environment may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions and moderate noise levels.
