GIS Analyst

The City of Cookeville is seeking a highly skilled GIS Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Electric Department, you will be responsible for coordinating all Geographical Information System functions, including updates to the GIS database and access via the network or web.

• Maintain the department's GIS system hardware and software
• Troubleshoot GIS system problems
• Provide GIS-related technical support to Department staff
• Update GIS database, including correcting errors and entering new data
• Collect GPS data in the field and import into GIS database
• Set up and maintain web maps and network access to GIS mapping
• Maintain plotter and create maps as requested
• Research possible GIS software for application to the Department

• Extensive knowledge of computer hardware and software, including ArcGIS and Arc SDE
• Knowledge of SQL and ArcGIS server
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
• Ability to operate handheld GPS device
• Knowledge of Windows, MS Office, and other commonly used software
• Effective verbal and written communication skills

The ideal candidate will have a one-year certificate from college or technical school plus two to three years of AutoCAD, GIS, and drafting-related experience and/or training. A valid Tennessee driver's license is also required.

The work environment is typically moderately noisy, but occasionally loud when outside collecting data near construction equipment. The incumbent will occasionally stand or walk, frequently sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Regularly, they must talk and hear, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
