About the Role

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to fill the position of Assistant Director for Career Development and Student Success. This role will be a key member of the Commerce Career Services team at the McIntire School of Commerce, University of Virginia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized career advising and support to McIntire students, including career exploration, job search strategies, and professional development.
  • Develop and deliver career-related workshops, programs, and events to engage students and promote career readiness.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and industry partners to design and implement career development initiatives that align with the McIntire School's mission and goals.
  • Conduct self-directed industry research to stay current on emerging trends and best practices in career development.
  • Support the development and implementation of career-related content, tools, and resources for the MyMcIntire Portal and other platforms.
  • Assist with the coordination of career fairs, programs, and events, as well as the collection and reporting of placement data.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in counseling, student affairs, higher education, or a related field.
  • At least two years of professional experience in career development, student affairs, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and industry partners.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high degree of professionalism and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a higher education setting, preferably in a career development or student affairs role.
  • Knowledge of career development theories, models, and best practices.
  • Experience with career assessment and exploration tools, such as career assessments and interest inventories.
  • Ability to design and deliver engaging and interactive career-related programs and events.
