Job Title: Assistant Professor of International Security

We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Assistant Professor of International Security to join our faculty in the Department of Political Science at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in international relations and international security, with a focus on one or more of the following areas: strategic studies, cybersecurity, terrorism and counterterrorism, critical security studies, human security, and environmental security.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in international relations and international security
  • Conduct research leading to publication in top-tier outlets
  • Engage in creative and/or scholarly activities
  • Design and implement new methods of teaching to reflect changes in the field
  • Provide curriculum material, construct syllabi, and lead classroom instruction
  • Mentor and evaluate students, create interest and understanding among students, and serve on various faculty- and student-oriented committees
  • Participate in faculty governance in the department and on campus
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. degree in Political Science or International Relations with a specialization in international security or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to teach an undergraduate Introduction to International Relations course
  • Ability to teach some combination of the following courses at the undergraduate or graduate level: International Conflict and National Security Policy, Theories of International Relations, and American Foreign Policy
  • Record of successful research and publication (e.g., journal articles published in reputable outlets)
  • Well-defined research agenda that focuses on international security
  • Evidence of effective teaching (e.g., teaching evaluations, sample syllabus, teaching portfolio)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong and active research agenda that is well-grounded in theory and backed by advanced analytical, methodological, and empirical skills
  • Demonstrated potential for publishing in top-tier outlets
  • Demonstrated commitment to graduate and undergraduate education and a willingness to contribute to our department's existing teaching strengths
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a student population from different backgrounds
  • Potential to secure external grant funding
  • Demonstrated commitment to active scholarly service
