Employment and Transition Program Paraeducator

Position Overview: This role entails collaborating closely with participants in the Employment and Transition Program (ETP), offering guidance and assistance to young adults with developmental challenges. The Paraeducator will operate under the direction of an educator to support instructional activities, oversee student engagement, and perform administrative tasks. Furthermore, the Paraeducator may be tasked with health-related responsibilities and engaging with students in work environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute tasks within program guidelines
- Operate under educator supervision
- Provide instruction to individuals or small groups
- Carry out administrative duties
- Assist with health-related tasks
- Ensure safety and security measures
- Support students in aquatic activities
- Accompany students as necessary
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or Equivalent along with additional qualifications as outlined.
Additional Requirements: Competence in fundamental skills and certifications in reading instruction and CPR/first aid.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in employment and transition environments with young adults.
Employment Conditions: Successful completion of background screening, fitness evaluation, and specific training prerequisites.
Knowledge Base: Familiarity with IEPs, English language structure, mathematics, behavioral interventions, and school regulations.
Skills and Abilities: Ability to demonstrate proficiency in technology, work autonomously and collaboratively, uphold professionalism, and adhere to safety protocols.
Cultural Competence and Equity: Awareness of cultural identity, advocating for equitable treatment, and supporting the District's dedication to student achievement.
Physical Requirements: Description of physical demands associated with the role.
Work Environment: Characteristics of the work setting and potential exposures.
Work Schedule: Assignment during the academic year with variable hours.
Reporting Structure: Reports to the educator and building principal.
Union Representation: Public School Employees Union (PSE) SEIU Local 1948.
Compensation Level: Paraeducator position as per the PSE Salary Schedule.
