Role Summary: The Parts Specialist is responsible for providing parts to customers in person, via phone, or through the service department. A professional demeanor is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist customers in identifying and selecting necessary parts, recommend related items, promote special offers, and ensure they are aware of the complete product range.
- Retrieve purchased parts from inventory. If a part is unavailable, check its status and inform the customer of the expected delivery date.
- Handle incoming calls, offering pricing information and other relevant details, while capturing customer contact information.
- Prepare orders for shipment, delivery, or customer pick-up.
- Regularly review 'will-call' and 'back-order' files, returning unneeded items to vendors or restocking them.
- Notify customers and the Service Department upon the arrival of parts.
- Process payments through cash, checks, or credit cards.
- Contribute to the organization and cleanliness of the parts department.
- Receive and stock incoming inventory, ensuring receipts match purchase orders.
- Assist in conducting periodic inventory counts as directed.
- Maintain attractive and well-stocked merchandise displays.
- Complete all required training as instructed.
- Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.
To excel in this role, an individual must effectively perform each essential duty. The following qualifications are indicative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Educational: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Preferably one year in an automotive parts department.
Special Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and understand instructions and information. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with customers. Proficiency in using personal computers and applications, including word processing and spreadsheets.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
The work environment may occasionally be noisy. The role may require bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, and lifting materials weighing up to 50 pounds. There may be exposure to battery acid, gasoline, cleaning chemicals, or other hazardous materials commonly found in an automotive dealership. Occasional exposure to exhaust fumes or airborne particles may also occur.
