Position Title: Career Coach

Reports To: Academy Director

Location: DeKalb County Acceleration Academies

Compensation: $60,000 - $75,000

Key Responsibilities

Career Coaches play a vital role as learning resources for our Graduation Candidates (GC), working collaboratively within a team to:

  1. Support the competency-based blended curriculum, ensuring GCs demonstrate proficiency through various assessments.
  2. Lead the creation of Personalized Learning Plans tailored for GCs.
  3. Guide and mentor GCs to achieve passing scores on state assessments, End-of-Course exams, college entry exams, and any required standardized tests.
  4. Ensure that every GC masters the necessary content on their journey to high school graduation and future success.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a relevant field
  • Certification: School Counseling credential in Georgia is highly preferred
  • Background Check: Must demonstrate a clear state and federal criminal history

Enrollment Responsibilities
  • Support new GC enrollment through outreach and engagement initiatives.
  • Assist in implementing GC Orientation.
  • Lead the development of Personalized Learning Plans (PLP) for GCs.
  • Guide GCs in scheduling to meet attendance requirements.
  • Assign courses according to the PLP for GCs.
Retention Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure GCs maintain scheduled attendance.
  • Actively engage in the Retention Cycle Protocol.
  • Assist in addressing barriers to attendance.
  • Advocate for and support site-level incentive programs.
Academic Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all aspects of local, state, and national exams.
  • Develop and monitor post-secondary plans for each GC to facilitate their success beyond Acceleration Academy.
  • Implement career pathway partnerships that offer job fair participation, job-shadowing, and internships for GCs.
  • Conduct weekly workshops focusing on career planning topics.
  • Provide guidance on resumes, cover letters, and job interview strategies for GCs.
  • Assist GCs with career and college planning.
Advocacy Responsibilities
  • Stay informed about current employment trends and resources in the local area by facilitating workshops and networking events.
  • Participate in academy meetings and community events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Additional Qualifications
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish)
  • Strong understanding of ESE (Exceptional Student Education), ELL (English Language Learner), and behavior intervention practices.
  • Experience in non-traditional educational settings and/or with at-risk youth.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting high school-aged youth who have disengaged from traditional education, creating opportunities for academic and personal breakthroughs.
  • Experience reviewing transcripts and understanding graduation requirements.
  • Experience providing support, interventions, and counseling services to high school-aged youth.
  • Strong understanding of and comfort with technology in educational settings.
  • Experience with project-based learning, instructional coaching, portfolio assessment, competency-based education models, cooperative learning, technology integration, and alternative assessments.
