The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking an experienced Investment Operations Manager to join the Investments Department. This position is responsible for overseeing the middle and back-office functions for the internally managed public assets and alternative investments.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure the integrity of investment operations by reviewing activity to ensure securities and transactions are accurately recorded in the internal systems.
- Manage the development, implementation, and administration of operational processes.
- Work with Investment teams on expectations/needs for new investment strategies.
- Serve as point of contact for service providers to expedite operating needs and resolve issues.
- Manage escalated issues relating to trading operations, collateral management, and monthly and quarterly reporting.
- Establish metrics and measurements to assure accurate completion of tasks and delivery of excellent customer service to the Investment teams.
- Assist setting up new portfolios on internal systems and coordinates planned systems testing.
- Ensure written policies and procedures for the Operations team are maintained.
- Provide leadership, and is a role model to the direct reports and staff.
- Provide timely feedback through coaching and mentorship.
- Recruit and develop new employees.
- Work with Chief Administrative Officer in short- and long-term planning for the Operations unit.
- Work on special projects and prepares reports requested by the Chief Administrative Officer and Investment teams in a timely manner.
- A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, in finance, accounting, or a related field will be accepted; Bachelor's degree preferred
- A combination of significant experience in Investment Operations, Accounting, Finance, or related field, in a leadership role
- Expert with Microsoft Office products and automated financial management systems
- Demonstrated quantitative/analytical skills, and project management skills
- Requires a process mindset and interest in resolving complex problems
- Ability to work well across various investment and investment support groups
- Effective, accurate and clear communication skills
- Excellent written, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Superb work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence
- Requires an aptitude for finance, accounting and investment management
- 10 years or more, of management experience in Investment Operations or related Accounting/Finance role
- Master's degree in business administration and/or other applicable advanced degree and/or professional designation
