School Bus Inspection Technician

Job Summary

Blue Bird is seeking a skilled School & Commercial Bus Inspection Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Sales Operation Center, you will be responsible for inspecting new buses, making repairs, and ensuring the salable condition of our vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect buses to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, company standards, and customer requirements
  • Perform repairs and replacements with efficiency and accuracy, adhering to factory standards
  • Verify all fluids are correct and at proper levels, and perform functional tests on electrical, mechanical, and safety systems
  • Start engine and drive the vehicle to test steering, brakes, transmission, and engine operation
  • Inspect surfaces to detect minor chips and scratches in paint, and touch up imperfections using brush applicator and factory-supplied matching paint
  • Ensure repairs are properly documented and report any safety issues immediately to management
  • Clean and vacuum interior of vehicles, wash and polish exterior of vehicles
  • Maintain and account for all Sales Operation Center owned tools and manuals
Requirements
  • Strong technical background with expertise in school bus and/or medium duty vehicle applications
  • Product familiarization for all sub-systems on school bus and/or medium duty vehicle products
  • Excellent communication and customer relation skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Proven track record of working independently, following-through, and solving problems quickly
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours when required, including weekends and evenings
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of PDI technician experience in the automotive, truck, and/or bus industry inspecting & repairing body, chassis, electrical & powertrain components
  • ASE Master School Bus Technician certification
  • Class B CDL with School Bus & Air Brake Endorsement, or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment
