About the Role

The Fleet Maintenance Manager will provide strategic leadership and direction to the engineering staff, ensuring the highest standards of vessel maintenance and repair. This includes achieving efficient and thorough execution of fleet maintenance and repairs, strict adherence to company safety policies, full compliance with regulatory and class rules, effective cost control, and effective personnel management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a team of Port Engineers and ensure the effective management of vessel maintenance and repair operations.
  • Work within the confines of shipboard and shoreside collective bargaining agreements to ensure compliance and effective labor management.
  • Resolve engineering Nonconformity Reports (NCR) and ensure timely and effective resolution of issues.
  • Complete Annual Performance Reviews for assigned Chief Engineers and provide constructive feedback for growth and development.
  • Participate in the Matson Safety Committee and the Engine Officer Selection Committee to ensure a culture of safety and excellence.
Financial Management
  • Prepare and report on all financial and accounting elements, including annual budget preparation and implementation.
  • Manage vendor contracts and ensure effective cost control and procurement practices.
  • Submit properly drafted Capital Expense Requests (CER) for vessel modifications and upgrades.
Vessel Maintenance and Compliance
  • Collect and prepare dry dock specifications in preparation for regulatory dry dockings.
  • Develop, refine, and implement policy and procedures for the company's Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Demonstrate good environmental stewardship in all aspects of vessel operations.
Reporting and Communication
  • Provide daily, weekly, and monthly reports on activities and ensure effective communication with stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in marine maintenance and repair, with experience in shipyard operations and a proven track record of leadership and management. A USCG Licensed Chief Engineer, Unlimited Motor, with seagoing experience in senior officer positions is required. Containership Technical manager experience is also highly desirable.

Matson offers a competitive salary range of $122,200 - $177,160, depending on qualifications and experience. The company also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a 401k with employer matching and profit sharing.
