Job Summary:

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a skilled Clinical Laboratory Technologist to join our team on a per diem basis. As a Cytotechnologist, you will play a vital role in providing clinical services to our patient population, interacting with nursing staff, physicians, and other hospital personnel in a professional manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine Gynecologic, Non-Gynecologic, and Fine Needle Aspirations cytology specimens to determine if a specimen is benign and/or malignant.
  • Present abnormal findings to the Pathologist and render a final diagnosis.
  • Screen cytology specimens to determine whether cellular changes meet guidelines for referral to the Pathologist.
  • Obtain patient history relevant to the final cytologic diagnosis.
  • Schedule and attend FNA's to determine specimen adequacy.
  • Process specimens for microscopic evaluation when needed.
  • Participate in Quality Control and Quality Assurance.
  • Participate in Proficiency Testing and Continuing Education.

Requirements:

  • Formal training from an accredited school of Cytotechnology.
  • Pass the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) registry exam (CT, ASCP).
  • Registered Cytotechnologist with NYSED and NYSED license in Cytotechnology.
  • Baccalaureate Degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two to five years of experience in Cytotechnology.
