Clinical Laboratory Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at Stony Brook Medicine. As a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, you will play a vital role in providing clinical services to our patient population.
You will be responsible for maintaining specific knowledge of safe laboratory practices as endorsed by the New York State Department of Health and Occupational Safety and Health Administration. You will conduct yourself in a manner consistent with those practices to ensure the safety of all lab personnel.
Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Perform high complexity coagulation testing using both manual and automated methods.
- Perform assays using the ELISA method.
- Perform assays consisting of multiple dilutions requiring impeccable technique.
- Perform esoteric platelet aggregation testing.
- Perform hemoglobinopathy testing.
- Assist on bone marrow biopsy procedures and process the specimens obtained.
- Assist in implementing and validating new procedures.
- Actively engage in continuing education in order to enhance the department, including a willingness to attend conferences whenever possible.
- Accommodate emergencies, if necessary, by adjusting work hours accordingly.
- Line responsibility for the performance of clinical analysis in the Department of Laboratories.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting as assigned according to established protocols to ensure proper instrument performance.
- Adhere to all quality control policies and procedures.
- Proficient in computer protocols as assigned.
- Adhere to all SBUH and departmental policies and protocols.
- Bachelors' of Science degree in Medical Technology/Biological or Life Sciences.
- NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility.
- Three or more years full-time experience in a College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited laboratory performing Hematology and Coagulation testing.
- At least one year performing specialized testing such as factor assays, hemoglobinopathy evaluation, platelet aggregation, ELISA assays, or other relevant testing.
