We are in search of an experienced Team Leader to become a vital part of our dynamic dog daycare, boarding, grooming, and training facility. In this multifaceted role, you will oversee the overall welfare of the animals while managing the kennel staff at our establishment. Additionally, you will support the General Manager with daily operational tasks, including the supervision of client service personnel as required. This position demands a proactive, organized, and committed individual with exceptional communication skills and a strong emphasis on professionalism, quality, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the general health and safety of all animals in our care.
  • Supervise kennel staff and manage essential animal care duties such as feeding, recreation, housing, and grooming.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal feedings, treatments, and other pertinent information to guarantee the well-being of the animals.
  • Adhere to feeding and medication protocols while closely monitoring kennel staff involved in these tasks.
  • Engage in play and exercise activities with the animals, grouping them by temperament and rotating them to ensure adequate recreation time.
  • Uphold a clean and sanitary environment, ensuring that all areas, including runs, kennels, and play yards, are properly maintained.
  • Verify that run card information is accurate and properly displayed as per established policies.
  • Ensure that animals are housed in appropriately sized accommodations.
  • Monitor external temperatures and manage animal care in accordance with established temperature policies.
  • Maintain proper signage throughout the facility in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with staff to stay informed on standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure adherence to these guidelines.
  • Update SOPs as necessary and provide documented training to staff on any revisions or new procedures.
  • Schedule kennel staffing based on daily capacity and work with the General Manager to monitor payroll expenses.
  • Ensure adequate coverage for kennel staff during breaks and meal times.
  • Conduct team meetings and collaborate with the General Manager on employee performance evaluations, providing regular feedback.
  • Assist in overseeing client service staff to ensure proper coverage at the front desk and for in-person clients.
  • Coordinate with trainers, groomers, and front-end staff regarding intakes, go-home schedules, training sessions, grooming needs, and client-specific requests to ensure seamless communication.
  • Engage with the General Manager and ownership as needed to discuss issues, provide feedback, and suggest improvements.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the General Manager.
Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years of experience in animal care, with leadership experience preferred. A commitment to quality, safety, and the ability to engage and train others is essential.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset; this role involves active participation.
  • A genuine passion for animal welfare.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Capability to interact with animals in a calm and non-threatening manner.
