Job Summary

Penn State Health is seeking a highly skilled Per Diem Pathology Assistant to join our team in Reading, Pennsylvania. As a Per Diem Pathology Assistant, you will play a critical role in the daily supervision of the Surgical Gross Room, gross examination and sectioning of surgical pathology specimens, and determining work assignments for technologists and technicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the Surgical Gross Room and ensure timely completion of processing of all surgical specimens.
  • Determine work assignments for technologists and technicians to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Coordinate functions between the Gross Room and other laboratory sections, surgery, and physicians.
  • Maintain various records, logs, and files as required by department standards and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from a NACCL-accredited Pathologists' Assistant educational program or equivalent experience.
  • Either (A) Bachelors Degree from a NACCL-accredited Pathologists' Assistant educational program required or (B) Bachelors degree in a job-related field plus 2 years experience working in a laboratory performing high complexity testing.
  • AAPA certification preferred.
