Job Summary

Vassar Brothers Medical Center is seeking a skilled Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist to join our team in the Department of Radiology. As a CT Technologist, you will be responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images of patients using CT scanners, while providing exceptional patient care and ensuring a safe and efficient imaging process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate Patient Care: Prioritize exams based on priority level, ensuring timely completion and escalating any hurdles to the Lead CT Technologist or Manager.
  • Patient Identification and Preparation: Properly identify patients using two patient identifiers, check imaging orders for complete information, and assess risk of pregnancy prior to commencing with the exam.
  • Explain Procedures: Explain the procedure to patients with professionalism and compassion, ensuring they understand the process and any necessary preparations.
  • Perform IV Cannulation and iStat Testing: Perform IV cannulation and iStat testing as prescribed by Licensed Independent Practitioners, using aseptic technique and following established policies.
  • Position Patients and Select Imaging Protocols: Position patients to ensure comfort and modesty, selecting the proper imaging protocol reflective of the imaging order and maintaining a high degree of accuracy in positioning.
  • Operate Power Injectors and Radiation Safety: Operate power injectors in preparation for and administration of contrast media, demonstrating knowledge of and practicing radiation safety.
  • Post-Processing and Exam Verification: Be proficient in the operation of post-processing workstations, performing critique of exams for completeness and correct labeling, and responsible for accurate and timely exam verification within the hospital's RIS system.
  • Infection Control and Safety: Follow infection control and safety guidelines, cleaning and disinfecting scanners and exam rooms, and properly stocking assigned rooms prior to the start and end of shift.
  • Protocol Exams and Coordinate Patient Transportation: Protocol exams for the next day to ensure proper scheduling, flag any contraindications, and request revised orders as necessary, coordinating all aspects of care for CT patients, including patient transportation and communication with nursing units.
Requirements
  • Education: Minimum graduate of a School of Radiologic Technology, preferred Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Certification: American College of Radiology (ARRT) CT Certification or acquire within 1 year of hire.
  • Work Experience: Minimum one (1) to two (2) years of clinical experience in CT, preferred.
  • License and Registration: Valid New York State (NYS) Radiological License with Injection and Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
