Overview: The Senior Imaging Specialist is responsible for generating high-quality magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) images of specified anatomical regions as per established protocols. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of patient care across various age groups and adherence to departmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts imaging procedures in line with departmental guidelines, ensuring all examinations are complete and accurately labeled before finalizing in the Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS).
- Confirms patient identity and matches exam requests with physician orders prior to initiating procedures, while providing clear explanations to patients and positioning them appropriately.
- Safely operates CT and MR imaging equipment for data acquisition and image reconstruction, performing quality control checks to guarantee optimal image quality.
- Administers i-Stat testing in compliance with laboratory and radiology protocols.
- Executes IV cannulation using aseptic techniques, minimizing patient discomfort.
- Reviews non-standard studies before patient discharge to prevent unnecessary follow-ups.
- Maintains cleanliness and readiness of imaging equipment and exam rooms, ensuring proper stocking prior to shifts.
- Identifies potential safety hazards in MRI/CT environments and responds effectively to urgent situations.
- Prepares for upcoming examinations by verifying scheduling accuracy and flagging any discrepancies.
- Addresses job-related challenges, including equipment malfunctions and technique adjustments, promptly notifying management of any significant issues.
- Ensures all procedural documentation, including consent forms and operative notes, are accurate and correctly entered into the system.
- Communicates professionally and efficiently with supervisors, colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors, ensuring high-quality service delivery.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of two (2) years of college education or technical training.
- At least one (1) year of experience in MRI and/or CT imaging.
Skills and Competencies:
- Maintains proficiency in imaging techniques, including those involving advanced or complex equipment through ongoing education and training.
- Possesses general knowledge in a specialized field typically associated with an A.A. or A.S. degree.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- NYS Radiologic Technologist License.
- Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology in CT and MR imaging.
