Nursing Team Leader

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Professional Nurse to join our team as an Assistant Head Nurse at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. As a key member of our nursing staff, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the quality of care rendered to Behavioral Health Adult patients.
Salary: $93,143 per year (based on average salary in New York City).
About the Job
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will have the authority and responsibility of managing the unit to ensure quality care for every patient in the unit. You will be responsible for implementing the Nursing Department philosophy and objectives of Nursing Care through the use of Departmental and Nursing Policies and procedures. You will serve as a team leader and assist the Head Nurse in guiding and directing nursing personnel.
Responsibilities
- Assist with direct nursing care of patients when required.
- Check time and attendance for employees (tardiness, unscheduled absences) and report concerns to the Head Nurse.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals in the care of patients and includes the family.
- Coordinate all patient care activities in the unit.
- Conduct meetings with staff to communicate the implementation of policies, care innovations, new/revised/discontinuance of practices, policies, equipment, supplies, etc.
- Conduct interdisciplinary rounds, huddles, conferences, and referrals as needed.
- Conduct, participate in the disciplinary process.
- Contribute to employee performance appraisal on the off shift.
- Create staff assignments based on census, acuity, and staff experience and skill level of the staff.
- Delegate staff to perform the following assignments including but not limited to vital signs, checking of code carts, checking logs (Refrigerator, Defibrillator, and other unit specific logs).
- Follow up staff educational profile compliance in coordination with the Head Nurse/Assistant Head Nurse.
- Develop a plan of care that is individualized for the patient reflecting collaboration with other members of the healthcare team.
- Observe symptoms or changes in patient's care status and respond appropriately.
- Review and assist with the balancing of the staff schedule.
- Request and receives reports from staff. The conditions of patients and significant occurrences observed.
Requirements
- A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
- Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Six (6) months of experience as a registered nurse.
