Piper Companies is seeking an experienced individual to fill the role of Animal Care Specialist in a leading academic institution. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of laboratory animals.

  • Daily Animal Husbandry Duties

The Animal Care Specialist will perform daily animal husbandry duties, including health checks, cage cleaning, and waste disposal. Additionally, they will manage laboratory sanitation and environmental conditions, such as humidity and temperature.

Assisting in Veterinary Care

  • The Animal Care Specialist will assist in basic veterinary care for animals housed within the vivarium, including administering medication and monitoring animal behavior.

Maintaining Vivarium Supplies and Resources

  • The Animal Care Specialist will oversee vivarium supplies and resources, including ordering and stocking necessary materials.

SUPPORTING ANIMAL BREEDING COLONIES

  • The Animal Care Specialist will provide support to rodent breeding colonies, including monitoring animal health and assisting with breeding procedures.

Maintaining Logs and Research Documentation

  • The Animal Care Specialist will maintain logs and research documentation in accordance with company standards, including recording animal health, treatment, and research data.

This position requires a minimum of 1 year of animal husbandry experience and technical skills related to animal breeding, tissue sampling, harvesting, collection, and rodent mouse models. A High School Diploma or BS in biology-related field is required, and American Association of Laboratory Animal Sciences certification at the ALAT level is preferred. Compensation includes salary range $20.00-$22.00/hr and comprehensive benefits package.
