Job Title: After School Education Specialist

Commonpoint Queens is seeking a highly motivated and experienced After School Education Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our education department, you will be responsible for facilitating the oversight and implementation of our Educational Program development and implementation at our off-site school-aged after-school programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with the Program Director to determine the appropriate curriculum for various grade levels and develop curriculum materials.
  • Adapt program lessons and activities to align with each grade's NYS Common Core Learning Standards.
  • Allow 9 hours per week per program for lesson planning, staff observations, and meetings with the director.
  • Write and review weekly lesson plans for scheduled activities.
  • Observe staff during activities and provide constructive feedback to improve lessons and activities.
  • Facilitate training on classroom management and lesson follow-through, among other topics determined by staff observation and intervention.
  • Keep activities aligned with the common core standards, host school curriculum, and Department of Youth and Development guidelines.
  • Provide and plan professional development for on-site staff.
Requirements:
  • Experience working in a classroom with groups of 20 students or more for at least one year.
  • Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development and alignment.
  • Organizational skills to coordinate multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Familiarity in working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and understand various work styles.
  • Computer literate, including experience with Google Drive applications.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Education.
  • Knowledge of the NYS CCLS and lesson planning.
  • NYS Teaching certification preferred.
