Position Summary: The Mechanical Design Engineer will take the lead in innovating new concepts and developing products along with the necessary processes to bring these products to fruition. This role involves creating and refining designs, as well as producing detailed drawings for components and assemblies. The engineer will work to meet customer needs while providing operational support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop innovative design solutions based on specified requirements.
- Create 3-D models of new designs and layouts using SolidWorks.
- Model interfaces, individual components, and purchased parts.
- Gather and analyze information from existing precedents, manufacturer catalogs, and technical documentation for dimensions, tolerances, and drafting standards.
- Generate detailed drawings for individual components derived from engineering designs and layouts.
- Design precision machined components including parts made on mills, lathes, and screw machines.
- Design molded components.
- Produce assembly and product drawings.
- Maintain proficiency in geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Conduct tolerance analyses.
- Investigate and analyze issues, proposing recommendations and potential design solutions for implementation.
- Initiate engineering change notices as necessary.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing engineering and operations to ensure that drawing details (Bills of Material, special notes/instructions, standards) support manufacturability.
- Lead and support design review sessions.
- Order, assemble, and facilitate testing of new products.
- Address design-related challenges concerning performance, manufacturability, and product delivery.
- Develop supplier relationships to ensure a reliable component supply.
- Engage in the Material Review Board for non-conforming materials.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to interpret assembly drawings based on internal and customer specifications.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Expertise in SolidWorks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality.
- Thorough understanding of best practices in customer service.
- A collaborative team player.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a related field.
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency to meet AFSI ITAR requirements.
