Product Development Engineer

Purpose of Position

This role will be dynamic in nature, contributing skills sets in a dual role within the organization. The development engineer will conceptualize, design, validate, and manage new products from conception through production implementation. Assignments will be broad in nature, requiring initiative, originality, ingenuity, and excellent problem-solving skills. Knowledge in the selection of various materials and processes in a manufacturing setting will be required.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and develop new and innovative products and manufacturing processes as required.
  2. Provide technical solutions to support engineering, manufacturing, sales, and customer issues.
  3. Administer product testing that produces complete and accurate data with published analyses and conclusions.
  4. Implement continuous improvement systems and processes for productivity, safety, cost, quality, and waste reduction.
  5. Create and maintain product specifications for current products.
  6. Suggest revisions to methods of operation, material handling, or equipment layout.
  7. Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas, and confer with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
  8. Recommend changes to production standards to achieve the best quality within the limits of equipment capabilities.
  9. Develop the capabilities of machines and production schedules.
  10. Prepare charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine usage.
  11. Compile and evaluate statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products to assist in process improvement activities.
  12. Review production schedules, engineering specifications, process flows, and other information to understand methods applied and activities taking place in manufacturing and services.
  13. Provide recommendations and revisions to new and/or existing parts, products, and processes by analyzing study time, motion, methods, and speed involved in maintenance, production, and other operations to improve on standards.
  14. Enact quality control procedures to resolve production problems or minimize costs.
  15. Design control systems to coordinate activities and production planning to ensure products meet quality standards.

  13. Proficiency in computer applications, including AutoCAD 2D, 3D (Inventor), Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.
  14. Knowledge of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning).
Education and/or Experience
  1. Bachelor of Engineering preferred, Engineering Technology accepted.
  2. 5-7 year background in product design, utilizing 2D/3D software.
  3. 3-5 year background in process development and/or in a manufacturing environment.
  4. Rubber/Plastic processing or manufacturing background.
  5. Managing processes with SPC.
  6. ISO9001, ASTM.
