Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at RTX. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing complex mechanical systems for our aerospace and defense customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical systems, including mechanical hardware, thermal and structural analysis, and finite element analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design meets customer requirements and industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and technical reports.
  • Conduct thermal and structural analysis using industry-standard tools and techniques.
  • Participate in internal and external peer reviews, technical meetings, and program meetings.
  • Provide support to testing, subcontractors, and the factory.
  • Ensure consistent application of mechanical engineering best practices and follow common standards in accordance with RTX processes.
Requirements
  • Typically requires 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, analysis, and/or manufacturing engineering for military, aerospace, or related applications.
  • Proficiency with CREO/ProEngineer or similar CAD tool.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to read detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to explain complex mechanical systems clearly in simple terms to mixed audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active/current security clearance.
  • Knowledge in the design of products and tooling used in applications requiring high reliability and extended life.
  • Experience in developing detailed mechanical designs and documentation packages for electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in mechanical systems packaging, materials, thermal, and structural analysis.
  • Experience with a gate release process for product development.
  • Experience with the full product development cycle through Engineering and Manufacturing Development phases.
