Job Summary

This position is a critical part of the Indian Health Service's commitment to providing high-quality healthcare to the communities we serve. As a Physical Therapist, you will play a key role in developing and implementing treatment plans for patients with a wide range of physical disabilities and complex pathologies.

Responsibilities
  • Provide physical therapy services to patients with physical disabilities and complex pathologies, including burns, strokes, amputees, spinal cord injuries, and musculoskeletal and other medical, surgical, and orthopedic pathologies.
  • Develop treatment plans based on general information in consult and taking into consideration patients' physical and mental conditions, cooperation, and various psychological factors.
  • Evaluate and develop treatment plans for patients referred to the department by physicians, exercising independent professional judgment in planning and carrying out a treatment program to meet the patient's needs.
  • Guide Physical Therapy staff and ensure patient care and quality are met that are required by policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Selectee may be subject to a probationary/trial period.
  • ESEP appointees typically serve a two-year trial period.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • This is a designated position covered by Public Law, requiring contact or control over Indian children.
  • Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.
  • The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part-time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education A graduate or higher level degree that included: A physical therapy curriculum approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained; and Completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school.

Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physical Therapist from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT).
