Position Summary
The Automotive Parts Specialist is responsible for retail sales of automotive parts to customers, whether in person, via phone, or through the service department.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist customers in identifying and selecting the necessary parts, while also suggesting related products and promotions.
- Retrieve items from inventory; if unavailable, check for availability and place emergency orders as needed.
- Handle incoming calls, providing pricing information and assisting sales representatives with their requests.
- Prepare orders for shipment, delivery, or customer pickup.
- Regularly review and manage 'will call' and 'back order' files, returning unnecessary items to vendors or restocking them.
- Support service technicians in identifying parts required for ongoing repairs.
- Initiate repair orders for new service requests.
- Order necessary parts not in stock, based on discussions with the Shop Foreman.
- Assist with answering parts inquiries during peak times at the front counter.
- Ensure proper documentation is presented before charging out parts.
- Process returns and issue credits for returned parts, verifying original invoices or numbers.
- Ensure all charge sales are properly signed by customers.
- Collect necessary information for tax-exempt sales.
- Provide customers with the appropriate invoice copies and maintain accurate records for cash customers.
- Notify the credit department of any declined credit card transactions.
- Collaborate with the Parts Manager to maintain a Lost Sale Tracking program.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, reporting any incidents to management immediately.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year experience in an automotive parts department.
- At least 1 year of sales experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to read and understand instructions and information.
- Must meet insurability requirements set by the company.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Ability to effectively interact with multiple customers simultaneously.

- All applicants must demonstrate safe work practices.
- All applicants must pass pre-employment screenings, including background checks and drug tests.
