Job Overview

The American Montessori Society (AMS) is a leading advocate for high-quality Montessori education, setting professional standards for AMS-accredited institutions and affiliated teacher training programs. AMS serves as a vital resource for its members, the media, and the public, providing a voice in public policy and fostering a global Montessori community through various support services, research, and professional development initiatives.

We are currently seeking a Communications Manager to enhance our Marketing team's efforts in copywriting and strategic public relations. This role involves crafting and refining written communications directed at AMS members, stakeholders, and the broader public, while also developing and implementing a comprehensive public relations strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute effective communication strategies.
  • Establish and maintain media relations to promote AMS's initiatives.
  • Create and edit original content for both digital and print platforms.
  • Enhance existing content to ensure clarity and engagement.
  • Raise public awareness regarding AMS's mission and activities.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Supporting the writing, editing, and proofreading of various AMS publications, including newsletters, social media content, and marketing materials.
  • Creating a strategic public relations plan to bolster the organization's image within the educational community.
  • Managing media relations and fostering connections with journalists and influencers.
  • Collaborating with internal teams to ensure cohesive messaging across all communication channels.
  • Writing and editing web content in partnership with digital marketing teams.
  • Assisting the executive director with strategic communications and presentations.
  • Utilizing engagement metrics to assess the effectiveness of communication strategies and making data-driven improvements.
  • Crafting compelling content that articulates the organization's mission and achievements to diverse audiences.
  • Monitoring industry trends to identify proactive communication opportunities.
  • Contributing to the development of educational reports and publications.
  • Maintaining AMS's writing style guidelines and ensuring their application across departments.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in copywriting or public relations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong proofreading abilities and attention to detail.
  • Experience with communication analytics and the ability to implement data-driven improvements.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices.
  • Creative storytelling and content creation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
