About the Job

The CivicMinds, Inc. boutique law firm seeks an associate attorney with 3-6 years of experience in employment counselling and litigation to work with clients in the hospitality industry.

Candidates must have experience counselling clients through various employment and employee-related matters, as well as handling all stages of litigation in both state and federal courts, including motion practice, court appearances, and trial preparation. A good working knowledge of the Fair Labor Standards Act is also required.

As a member of the Employment Practices Group, the successful candidate will be able to:

  • counsel clients through a variety of employment and human resources matters
  • produce pleadings, motions, and other documents in a timely fashion
  • prepare for and represent clients at various court proceedings with minimal supervision
  • manage client expectations and communicate effectively to counsel them on litigation/dispute resolution strategies and risk assessments

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • hands-on broad litigation experience with specific experience in employment litigation
  • hands-on experience counselling clients on employment and employee-related matters
  • stellar research and writing skills
  • a working knowledge of the NY CPLR and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure
  • excellent communication skills
  • attention to detail and the ability to manage and maintain your own calendar and caseload
  • a collaborative attitude and a proactive, entrepreneurial spirit

Additional qualifications include admission to practice law in New York State and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, a law degree from an accredited institution, and a passion for food and/or experience in the hospitality industry. Candidates must live within commuting distance of downtown NYC.
