Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant I Certified to join our team at UNC Health. As a Medical Assistant I Certified, you will provide routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other healthcare team members in an outpatient clinic setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform rooming and intake process, collecting and documenting patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, and medical history.
  • Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history, and review current medication lists, allergies, and preferred pharmacies.
  • Assist providers with treatments, examinations, and procedures, and collect specimens and perform phlebotomy as needed.
  • Administer medications under the direction of a provider and perform tests, such as EKGs and eye exams, under the direction of a provider.
  • Review patient records to determine whether patients require routine health screenings and ensure exam and treatment rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Provide patients with after-visit instructions and educational materials as directed, and assist with patient registration, check-in, and appointment scheduling.
  • Answer clinic telephones and assist with in-basket tasks under the direction of a provider or nurse.
Requirements
  • Medical Assistant certification by a recognized organization, such as the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • Basic Life Support Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC).
  • Prior medical assistant or medical assistant externship experience preferred.
